Happiness cannot be pursued. Happiness must happen.

A human being is not one in pursuit of happiness but rather in search of a reason to become happy.” — Man’s Search for Meaning, Viktor E. Frankl

I have always wondered why gift flowers? Wouldn’t they wither and lose their physical beauty and fragrance eventually? How can such a temporary thing be a medium to express human emotions? How can it be something that can be remembered for a lifetime? How can it be a gift that can be treasured or bring someone Happiness?

Here’s my analogy on how flowers are correlated to our emotions.

It’s an undeniable fact that Flowers are beautiful and have a strong fragrance that can encapsulate one’s mind and heart. Although temporary, this is an experience we keep for life. But just the visual aesthetic of the flower is not the gift. The gift is the takeaway from our experience with the flower.

For instance, once you smell a Rose, the fragrance stays in your mind forever and the thorns that come with the Rose remind you that no matter how beautiful the relationship/life is, it always comes with its share of hardships.

Similarly, no moment no feeling can be forever and we have to enjoy it while it lasts.

All the little things/happiness might or might not add up someday. Whether it adds up or not shouldn’t be our cup of tea to worry about. What we should rather do, is to enjoy the little things while in the process, while it’s happening, enjoy the now n feel the happiness of the moment.

We all have this misconception about happiness- “When we get to our goal, we will be happy. Till then we r not.”

But in my opinion, happiness should not be “When I get there I’ll be happy”. Instead, Happiness is-

“Even while I’m getting there, I’m happy.”
